What's Up Downtown?

Downtown Icon.FINAL2

Monticello is planning improvements along Walnut & River Street in 2023. The timing is intended to coincide with the private project on Block 52, so roadways, sidewalks, and other improvements are unified.

The project includes wider sidewalks, parking, well-lit pedestrian access, better connections to the riverfront, safer crossing of Broadway, and improved signage. It also includes reconnecting Walnut to River Street. This improvement is identified in the Downtown Small Area Plan (2017) and creates a stronger connection within the downtown.

The Small Area Plan continues to guide our efforts in small, medium, and large-scale investments for existing and new spaces. Our current focus is on designing the 2023 project so it’s inviting, safe, and functional for the community.
