Absentee Voting for the 2022 General Election

Friday, September 23, 2022

This Friday, September 23 will be the first day of the 46-day absentee voting period. Eligible City of Monticello voters will be able to begin casting their ballots for the 2022 general election. Voters may request an absentee ballot by requesting one online at Secretary of State Office or by contacting City Hall directly. Voters are also able to visit City Hall where they can cast an in-person absentee ballot Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Once a voter has voted, they can check the status of their ballot on the Secretary of State’s website.

If voting by mail, be sure to avoid the common mistakes listed below to ensure that your ballot is accepted and counted:

  • Don't leave the witness section blank or incomplete. Witness signatures were not required in 2020 because of the pandemic, all absentee ballots for the 2022 election must be witnessed by an eligible Minnesota Voter or certified notary.
  • Read the instructions provided.
  • Use a blue or black ink pen to mark your ballot.
  • Use the same ID number (driver’s license or state ID or the last 4 digits of your Social Security number) on your signature envelope that you used on your application. It's a good idea to put down both numbers in both places.
  • Remember to sign the white signature envelope.
