Minnesota allows citizens to vote in advance of Election Day with an absentee ballot. Early voting for each election begins 46 days prior to Election Day. Voters who vote by absentee ballot are not eligible to vote on Election Day.
How to Apply?
There are two ways apply. The Secretary of State website is recommended.
- Access the absentee application online via the Minnesota Secretary of State website.
- Type your information into the fields as directed on the screen. When you complete all fields on both screens, click the submit button.
- Your application will be electronically sent to the City of Monticello.
- Note: You must provide an email address for this option.
If the ballot packet is rejected, the voter will be notified and have an opportunity to redo the absentee ballot. Voters can also use the Absentee Ballot Status Look-Up to track the receipt and acceptance of their ballots.
The second option is to fill out an application and turn it in to City Hall.
Health Care Facility Absentee Voting
Health Care Facility staff at the CentraCare Monticello Care Center (nursing home) will receive training from the County to allow residents to fill out the application and vote by absentee ballot. Residents should contact a manager at the facilities for more information about using this voting option.
