There is a great opportunity to recognize and incorporate Monticello’s natural resources to its advantage as the population increases and development of natural areas continues.
Two of the common themes in Monticello's Comprehensive Plan are the protection, preservation and enhancement of parks and open space and the creation of move- up housing. To achieve great neighborhoods, natural characteristics need to be incorporated into design.
In short, great communities and natural resources go hand in hand.
Purpose of Natural Resource Inventory & Assessments
To help the City achieve these goals, the City has approved a Natural Resource Inventory & Assessment (NRI or NRI/A). NRIs are a set of natural resource information for a given geographic area. The NRI most often includes a series of maps and analysis information on land, water and air resources. Monticello’s NRI also prioritized these resources based on their quality, character and community value.
Developing a plan that unifies the natural environment with the growth goals of Monticello today will build better neighborhoods and a better community tomorrow.
