Data Requests

The City Clerk facilitates the preservation and distribution of government data.

Minnesota Government Data Practices Act

The State of Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 13) presumes all government data is public unless a state or federal law says the data is not public. The Government Data Practices Act also requires cities to keep all government data in a way that makes it easy for members of the public to access.

Where to Find / Request Information

Many public records are available through the city’s website, including the City Code and City Council agenda packets and minutes. Information not found on the website can be requested through the City Clerk using the City of Monticello Data Request Form (PDF).

Copies of Records

Citizens have the right to look at public data the city keeps free of charge. Citizens also have the right to get copies; however, the city can charge a fee for data. If charges apply, you have the right to look at the data for free before deciding to request a copy.
